Die Wilde Eierbirne wurde 1854 erstmals von Eduard Lucas beschrieben. Ihre genaue Herkunft ist unbekannt, jedoch ist sie in Süddeutschland stark verbreitet und dort vor allem im Stuttgarter Raum. Das feinkörnige und süßherbe gelblichweiße Fruchtfleisch der Eierbirne wird von innen heraus teigig. Diese Eigenschaft und ihr Zuckergehalt von 15 Prozent - das ergibt im Saft umgerechnet 60 bis 70 Grad Oechsle - machen aus ihr eine sehr gute Most- Destillatbirne.
